Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts Participate In Breast Cancer Awareness Month Around The World
Founded in October 1985 by the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual international health campaign organized by breast cancer charities to increase awareness of the disease and raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. Here’s how some Shangri-La hotels and resorts around the world are getting involved in this important cause.
It’s never too early to raise awareness for breast cancer. On September 22, Kerry Hotel Pudong, Shanghai collaborated with More Than Aware organization, WeBox and Nike to host a boxing class in the Pudong Ballroom.
Over 750 participants of all ages attended the class to “fight” breast cancer and promote active lifestyles. All donations went to More Than Aware, which supports women through breast cancer awareness, prevention and recovery.
In the country’s capital, Hotel Jen Beijing partnered with Feng Hong Si Dai, a breast cancer charity in Asia, fashion designer Simon Gao and Trendshealth magazine for a photoshoot and video that will aim to raise awareness for breast cancer and promote early detection practices. The video and images will be displayed publicly in Beijing through October and beyond.
In Hong Kong, Chef Ricardo Chaneton at Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong created four- and six-course set dinner menus to recognize the importance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Inspired by his aunt who battled cancer, the light and refreshing menus will feature healthy ingredients and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation. Available throughout October, menus start from HKD980 (about USD126) and will be served at Restaurant Petrus. To book, please contact Restaurant Petrus at (852) 2820-8590 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for reservations.
Indonesia is also getting in on Breast Cancer Awareness Month. On October 6, Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta hosted its first activity with an information booth in the staff area so colleagues can learn about breast cancer prevention and detection. A themed bake sale made the booth sweeter along with pink wrist bands and shirts, from which all of the proceeds will go to a breast cancer foundation in Jakarta. On October 8, the hotel will host a walkathon, health talk and provide free breast cancer screenings from a certified clinic.

The resort will host: a morning run along the private beach; TABATA exercises, which is a high intensity interval training workout featuring four-minute exercises; a themed healthy menu in its dining outlets; and a one-day talk for hotel staff led by members of the Kinabalu Pink Ribbon organization.
