Shangri-La Hotels Spread Love and Cheer During Mid-Autumn Festival with CSR
Every year, people throughout China and Southeast Asia celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival to recognize the season’s lunar cycle and hope for a prosperous harvest. The holiday is one of the most important Chinese holidays, second only to Chinese New Year, and is an important time to spend with family and loved ones. Held on the fifteenth day of the eighth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, the exact date of the holiday changes every year (this year the holiday falls on September 15), but the jovial and giving spirit remains the same. This year, Shangri-La hotels throughout China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Southeast Asia will spread kindness and love throughout their communities.
On July 18, Shang Palace at Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta auctioned off a 24-carat Golden Moon Cake gift set to kick off the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations. The lavish set included a mooncake made with premium lotus paste covered with layers of 24-carat gold leaves, TWG Gold Tea, a gold teapot and Cristal champagne. Bidding prices started at Rp100 million (about USD7,626) and proceeds will go to a local children’s home in Jakarta.
Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Taipei understands that families extend beyond blood lines all the way to canines. This year, the hotel will offer a “Doggie Lover” Mooncake made with sweet potato from Yunlin and Taiwanese beef for families’ furry friends. For each gift box sold, the hotel will donate NTD100 (about USD3) to the Taiwan Guide Dog Association.
Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong and Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong teamed together to create a Heep Hong Charity Mooncake to benefit the Heep Hong Society, one of Hong Kong's largest organizations that helps children with special needs. The mooncake box, which is wrapped with paintings by the children of the Heep Hong Society, contains four traditional mooncakes with white lotus seed paste and double egg yolks and is sold for HKD368 (about USD48) at both hotels. Proceeds of the sales will benefit the Heep Hong Society.
