Shangri-La Sustainability is committed to hospitality from the heart, including heartfelt gestures to members in our communities. On June 23, Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur donated MYR 503,000 (over US $126,470) to twelve children with heart ailments at its Embrace the Gift of Life Buka Puasa Charity Dinner. KDYMM Sultanah Nur Zahirah and Manfred Weber, general manager at the hotel, presented the donation checks to the families.
“Since the Embrace the Gift of Life charity project began in 1985, we have been able to help hundreds of critically-ill children suffering from severe heart ailments,” said Weber. “The donations are given directly to the hospitals so the children can undergo operations without delay.”
Along with the twelve children and their families, almost 100 children with special needs from three assisted living facilities – Tasputra Perkim, Pusat Penjagaan Kanak-Kanak Cacat Taman Megah and Pertubuhan Kebajikan Al-Firdausi – attended the dinner. The hotel donated RM 5,000 (almost US $1,270) to each facility. Following the event, Weber and Rosemarie Wee, area director of communications at the hotel, gave special gift bags to the children.
All donations at the event were raised through the 2015 Charity Christmas Tree at the hotel. To date, the donations raised through the annual holiday project total to more than RM three million (almost US $756,000) since the project started in 1999.
We wish all of the children and their families happy and healthy recoveries.
