For the fifth consecutive year, the Hong Kong Council Of Social Services awarded Hotel Jen Hong Kong the Caring Company Logo. The Home Foundation For Children With Cancer Awards Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul

In April 2019, the Home Foundation for Children with Cancer (KACUV) awarded Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul for its outstanding support during a Children’s Festival on National Sovereignty & Children’s Day. The hotel hosted 250 children who are affected with cancer and their families for a day of fun at the hotel.

On August 21, Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore and Hotel Jen Tanglin Singapore received the Singapore Hotel Association Green Hotel Award 2019 and 2020. Presented by the Senior Minister of State for the Environment and Water Resources, the award recognizes the hotels based on their sustainable performance in key areas including waste management, energy and water efficiency.

On September 26, Dr. Ir Arief Yahya, MSc, the minister of tourism for Indonesia, awarded Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya the Green Hotel Award at the Indonesia Sustainable Tourism Awards Festival (ISTA Fest). The hotel was recognized for its sustainable operations, conservation efforts, pollution control, chemical storage and hazardous material management, as well as partnerships with organizations in the community.

Alpha Global Cynergy Awards Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta with Green Energy Certificate

Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta received the Green Energy Certificate 2018 from Alpha Global Cynergy as a valued recycling partner. Throughout 2018, the hotel provided the AGC with used cooking oil, which is repurposed into environmentally-friendly biodiesel.

Northstar Meetings Group Awards Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa, Sultanate of Oman with The Stella Award for Best Green Initiative

On November 1, Northstar Meetings Group awarded Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa, Sultanate of Oman with The Stella Award for Best Green Initiative. The resort won the award for its extensive Turtle Care Project, part of Sanctuary, Shangri-La’s Care for Nature Project. Through the program, two full-time Turtle Rangers monitor and record all turtle activities on the resort’s beach, which is one of only five turtle nesting sites in all of Oman. The rangers also educate the community and guests about threats facing turtles, including the endangered Green Turtle and critically-endangered Hawksbill Turtle, which both use the resort’s beach as their nesting sites.

Condé Nast Traveller, China Awards Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong at The Gold List 2018 Award Dinner

On August 17, 2018, Condé Nast Traveller, China awarded Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong the Local Heroes award during The Gold List 2018 Award Dinner. The hotel received the award for its community and cultural CSR efforts, including implementing the Cultural Heritage Package, a walking guide that highlights historic and cultural sites in Tsim Sha Tsui East. The package allows guests to “see and feel the living cultural history” of the area.

Chiang Mai Municipality Certifies Shangri-La Hotel, Chiang Mai With Clean, Safe, Healthy Environments and Lively – Gold Level

On August 10, the Chiang Mai Municipality certified Shangri-La Hotel Chiang Mai as Clean, Safe, Healthy Environment and Lively – Gold Level within the Nice Hotel Programme. The certificate recognizes the hotel as a healthy workplace and safe environment according to the Nice Hotel Programme standards.

Hong Kong Council of Social Services Awards Kerry Hotel, Hong Kong With Caring Company Logo

On February 6, 2018, the Hong Kong Council of Social Services awarded Kerry Hotel, Hong Kong with the Caring Company Logo. The distinction recognizes the hotel’s committed CSR initiatives including community donations and fundraising, the Read the World program organized in partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities Hong Kong, a series of educational heath talks for students at MTC Government Primary School, and the hotel’s inaugural Kerry Trail Challenge, which raised money for scholarships for students at the hotel’s EMBRACE beneficiary, J-Life Foundation.

On November 14, Shangri-La Hotel, Qingdao received the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) China Hotel of the Year Award at the MSC Achievement & Future seminar. On November 19, Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok was recognized at The Voice of American Business in Thailand with Gold Level distinction. The distinction recognizes the hotel’s sustainable operation efforts. This is the fifth year that the hotel has received the recognition.

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts Achieves Marine Stewardship Council Chain of Custody Certification for 53 Properties in Mainland China and Hong Kong

On June 8, 2018, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts announced a corporate partnership with Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and the achievement of MSC Chain of Custody Certification for 53 Shangri-La and sister-brand properties in Mainland China and Hong Kong. The MSC Chain of Custody certification signifies that any menu items with the MSC ecolabel: are fully traceable from a legal fishery; have proven minimal impacts on the marine environment and other species; and have minimal impacts on threatened or endangered species and juvenile fish. As of June 8, Shangri-La has the most hotels in Asia with MSC Chain of Custody certification.

In January 2018, The Hong Kong Council of Social Service awarded Hotel Jen Hong Kong the Caring Company Logo 2018. Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa, Cebu Receives Philippine Sustainable Tourism Anahaw Certificate – Level 3

On August 31, the Center for Appropriate Technology (GrAT) and the Department of Tourism awarded Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa, Cebu with the Philippine Sustainable Tourism Anahaw Certification – Level 3. The certification recognizes organizations that apply programs to attain zero carbon emissions. The resort will maintain the certification until 2020.

Shangri-La Hotel, Dalian Receives Dalian Hope Project 2017 Contribution Award

On March 28, 2018, Hope Project awarded Shangri-La Hotel, Dalian the Dalian Hope Project 2017 Contribution Award for the fourth consecutive year. The hotel received the award for its continuous support to its EMBRACE beneficiary, the Little Dolphin Autism Children’s Rehabilitation Center. In 2017, the hotel raised RMB61,000 (about USD8,911) for the organization that supported the center’s renovation projects, training for teachers and social engagement activities for the children.

In 2016, the International Certification of Sustainable Seafood presented Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong with its Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Chain of Custody (CoC) Certification. The certificate represents MSC-certification throughout the hotel’s food and beverage programs. Likewise, the International Certification of Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) presented the hotel with its ASC CoC Certificate, recognizing the hotel’s commitment to procuring sustainable aquaculture according to their standards.

On October 24, 2016, the Singapore Hotel Association (SHA) and National Environment Agency (NEA) awarded Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore the SHA-NEA 3R Award for Hotels 2016. Shangri-La Hotel, Paris Receives Citizens' Initiative Trophy at CSR Challenges Awards for Partnership with Pl4y International

In June 2015, Defis RSE awarded Shangri-La Hotel, Paris the Citizens’ Initiative trophy at the CSR Challenges Awards for its partnership with Pl4y International. Pl4y International is a non-governmental organization that educates children about nutrition and societal issues and helps them stay active. Defis RSE awarded the hotel for its long-term partnership with the organization, in which colleagues regularly volunteer and participate in sporting events organized by Pl4y International, such as the Nike 10K, Vertigo Race, Paris 20K, and more. For the past two years, Shangri-La Hotel, Paris has organized gala dinners, which were attended by renowned athletes, to help raise approximately €250,000 (about US $28,000) for the association.

Shangri-La Hotel, Dalian Receives Dalian Hope Project 2014 Contribution Award

On March 28, 2015, Hope Project awarded Shangri-La Hotel, Dalian the Dalian Hope Project 2014 Contribution Award. The hotel received the award for supporting its EMBRACE beneficiary, the Little Dolphin Autism Children’s Rehabilitation Center. In 2013, the hotel raised RMB131,000 (about USD19,137) for the organization that supported the center’s renovation projects, training for teachers and social engagement activities for the children.

In September 2015, Shangri-La Hotel, Shenyang received the Leadership Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. This certification recognizes the hotel’s commitment to upholding corporate social responsibility in its design and operation.

Golden Sands Resort, Penang Receives Health, Safety & Environment Award

Golden Sands Resort, Penang recently won the Health, Safety & Environment Award at the 2015 National Occupational Safety and Health Award Night, which was organized by the Ministry of Human Resources, Malaysia. The award honors an individual or organization that contributed to improving health, safety or the environment. The property is the only resort in the country to receive this award in 2015.

Love Wildlife Foundation Awarded Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok with Fin Free Thailand Plaque

Fin Free Thailand organization awarded Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok the Fin Free Thailand Plaque from Love Wildlife foundation, which recognizes the hotel’s refusal to serve shark fin in all restaurants and banquet functions. This is in accordance with Shangri-La Hotel and Resorts’ Sustainable Seafood Policy.

Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok received the Green Hotel (G-Gold Class) Award 2014 for its eco-friendly operations from Thailand’s Department of Environmental Quality Promotion, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

In 2014, the National Food Institute awarded Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok the World Class Food Safety Standard Mass Catering Award. This award is given to companies that prepare food with technique and ingredients in accordance with international standards.

Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta Honored with Wana Lestari 2014 Award from the Ministry of Forestry

The Wana Lestari 2014 award is an award given annually in recognition and appreciation of police forestry officials, local government officials and the public. The Central Ministry of Forestry Committee carried out an assessment of Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta's CSR programs with respect to environmental stewardship. Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta was the only hotel to be awarded this accolade based on their extensive environmental efforts.

Shangri-La's Villingili Resort & Spa, Maldives Received Sustainable Hotel Award for Partnership with Addu Meedhoo Cooperative Society

In October 2014, Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort & Spa, Maldives received the Sustainable Hotel Award at the 2014 Hotel Investment Conference Asia Pacific (HICAP) for its work with the Addu Meedhoo Cooperative Society (AMCS). Through the partnership, the resort initially provided funds to build greenhouses for local farmers. The resort now buys fruits and vegetables from the cooperative, and the farmers sell produce to the local community.

Municipal Government of Dalian Awards Shangri-La Hotel, Dalian as Best Supportive Employment of Disabled People Award

In January 2014, the Municipal Government of Dalian awarded Shangri-La Hotel, Dalian the Best Supportive Employment of the Disabled People for its dedicated work with Dalian Little Dolphin Recovery Centre. Through the successful partnership, four percent of the hotel’s total staff is people with disabilities.

Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa, Kota Kinabalu received the 2014 ASEAN Green Hotel Recognition Award for its CSR work within the resort and in the community. The resort implemented programs to help employees, the environment, and the community, as well as created and maintained environmental conservation awareness and programs.

In December 2014, the Ministry of Social Welfare awarded Sule Shangri-La, Yangon the Non-Handicapping Environment for Disabled Person award for its commitment to hire people with disabilities. Sule Shangri-La, Yangon was the only hotel in Myanmar to to give job opportunities to disabled persons.

On November 26, 2014, Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok recently received the American Chamber of Commerce Corporate Social Responsibility Excellence Recognition for 2014 and Creative Partnership Designation. Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok is one of 52 companies in Thailand received this award, and one of only three hotels.

Shangri-La Hotel, Fuzhou Awarded Project Hope Award for Involvement with the Organization

In September 2014, Project Hope, Fujian awarded Shangri-La Hotel, Fuzhou with the Project Hope Award, Government of Xiapu County Fujian Province, for its involvement with the organization. Project Hope aims to build schools in low-income areas of China and to help students whose families cannot afford to send their children to school.

Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort & Spa, Maldives received the Community Sustainable Award from the Ministry of Fishery and Agriculture of Maldives for its successful partnership with local fisheries. The local fisheries use sustainable fishing methods, and the partnership ensures a long-term buyer.

In November 2014, Ben Bousnina, general manager at Shangri-La's Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa, Singapore, was awarded a certificate for Shangri-La's Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa, Singapore's excellent voluntary services to APSN Delta Senior School during the Children's Charities Association Annual Presentation 2014. Recipients are selected based on the length of regular service and significant contributions to APSN.

In March 2014, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) awarded Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur the ASEAN Green Hotel Award 2014-2016. This award counts as the fourth ASEAN Green Hotel Award the hotel has won in a row. The award recognizes the hotel’s continued efforts to work toward a sustainable future and responsible tourism that benefits its guests, employees and the community.

Shangri-La Hotel, Huhhot Awarded for Top 10 Most Creative Social Initiatives in Huhhot

In 2013, the Huhhot Civilisation Development Committee awarded Shangri-La Hotel, Huhhot an award for executing one of the top ten most creative social initiatives in Huhhot. The award-winning initiative involved the hotel inviting 300 senior citizens from the Jinhe Xiyanghong Nursing Home to have lunch and enjoy entertainment at the hotel, and twenty guests were invited to stay overnight at the hotel.

Shangri-La Hotel, Suzhou Receives Caring Company Award from its Embrace Beneficiary, Jia Yue Rehabilitation Center

Shangri-La Hotel, Suzhou’s Embrace beneficiary, Jia Yue Rehabilitation Center, awarded the hotel with its Caring Company award. Jia Yue Rehabilitation Center, a center for children with hearing disabilities, became the hotel’s official Embrace beneficiary in January 2013. Hotel volunteers regularly organize activities and trainings for the kids to help improve the children's communications skills. The hotel also sponsored a renovation for two of the center’s classrooms.

In March 2010, Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur was awarded for its CSR initiatives in the Environment category at The Prime Minister’s CSR Awards.  The Prime Minister’s CSR Awards is the highest recognition for corporate organizations in Malaysia, which aims to recognize companies that have made a difference to the communities through their CSR programs.
