About Shangri-La Group
Corporate Social Responsibility
At Shangri-La Group, we deliver hospitality from the heart to our guests every day. It is with this same idea that we treat our surrounding communities with the same hospitality. Through Shangri-La Group’s active CSR efforts to better our communities and preserve our planet’s natural beauty and resources, we attempt to do our part to make a better world for tomorrow.
Shangri-La Group has unified all CSR initiatives under the umbrella brand Sustainability within five key areas: Environment, Health & Safety, Employees, Supply Chain, and Stakeholder Relations. This campaign strives to educate our stakeholders, inspire and engage our employees, enjoin our business partners and align ourselves with the local community initiatives.
Shangri-La Group's core Sustainability projects include Embrace and Sanctuary. Embrace, Shangri-La’s Care for People Project, commits each property to a partnership with a chosen beneficiary working on children’s health or education program. Each property’s Embrace initiative works to improve children’s opportunities in its surrounding community with hands-on support. For example, employees at Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta help clean, renovate and restore a local junior high school that suffers from insufficient classroom, toilet, canteen, garden and schoolyard facilities, while Shangri-La Hotel, Paris supports the non-governmental organization Sport Without Borders, which implements development programs using sports as an educational, therapeutic and awareness-raising tool.
Sanctuary, Shangri-La’s Care for Nature Project aims to make a concerted effort towards biodiversity conservation and habitat protection. Properties work on individualized projects which are developed, tracked and monitored after a biodiversity assessment. To date, there are 18 Sanctuary projects in place.
At Shangri-La Group, we believe there is no greater act of hospitality than embracing a stranger as our own. Whether a stranger be a guest, a member of our surrounding community, or an animal in one of our nature reserves, we hope to create a healthy, peaceful and safe home for all.
